Lloyd Princeton: in discussion

In October 2014, SDS held a seminar introducing design consultant, Lloyd Princeton in discussion on his ethos of evolving a design practice to work with consumers who are flooded with "do it yourself" messages and images from the Internet and television. During this interactive program, the designers in attendance were educated on how to position their brand, package their services and optimize their pricing so that they could maintain their design integrity, professional (and personal!) satisfaction and give clients what they want - more control over their projects. This timely conversation steered our designers back into the driver's seat of their design practice! Those in attendance received credit from IDCEC (Interior Design Continuing Education Council).

Lloyd Princeton is founder and principal consultant of Design Management Company. With Lloyd's coaching and consulting, interior designers and architects discover how to increase revenue, gain media exposure and develop their businesses. His clients include Polo Ralph LaurenKravetAnn Sacks and hundreds of reputable design and architecture firms throughout North America. Lloyd is a sought-after speaker internationally.

Thom Filicia "american Beauty" Book Signing

Back in 2013, we at SDS had the pleasure of hosting Thom Filicia for a book signing of his then fresh of the press design book, "American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat." Personable, charismatic and inspiring only brushes the surface of the man behind the designs; it was a privilege to drink in the breath of fresh air pouring off his immaculately styled attire. Throughout the event, designers had their copies of the book signed by Thom and even snagged a photo or two for Instagram, as we definitely took advantage. It was an event enjoyed by all and the product of an equal balance of passionate designers, conversation and always delicious hors d'oeuvres. Thank you for those who attended and were able to experience the feel good atmosphere of presenting Thom Filicia and his wondrous book.

"American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat" is a visual story of childhood memories recreated and renovated through the beauty of design imagined as Thom's dream retreat on New York's Finger Lakes. "Thom Filicia proves that small town and high style can meet. His story of transforming a derelict house in a classic Finger Lakes resort community as charming as it is inspiring. The book is full of practical renovation advice and decorating wisdom, but, even better, it's got heart. What's impressive is not only what he does, but why, and Filicia's deep love of this house-and this town-is clear on every page," proclaimed Michael Boodro, Editor in Chief of Elle Decor
